What is the photoshop effect?

There are two main types of photoshop effects. They are the layer styles in the Photoshop software and the effects we create. In this article, we are discussing photoshop layer styles. Photoshop effects on a layer are called layer style. Here we will discuss the individual parts of the Layer Style window that most use for Photoshop effects.

Photoshop effects – Styles

The Layer Style window has this Styles section first. Here you can choose one of the given styles. You can also add a new layer style if needed. Click on the Settings tab of the styles tab.

Blending options

Here we can see the significant changes that can make to our chosen Layer. The blending options section plays a vital role in Photoshop effects, which mainly divide into three parts.

1. General Blending

The first part of the Blending Options section includes basic opacity settings and blend mode. The opacity and blend mode of the Layer palette are the same here. These settings allow you to specify the Layer’s transparency value, the Layer to mix with the other layers.

2. Advanced Blending

Here you can change fill-opacity, channels, and knockouts. Red, Green, and Blue colors in RGB color mode can remove one by one. These settings can see in the channels associated with the layer palette.

3. Blend if mode

Here you can remove or retrieve the colors from the respective Layer using RGB colors and Gray color. You can get an idea of how to manage the Blending Options menu in the video below.

Bevel & Emboss effects

The bevel & emboss section occupies an important place when it comes to photoshop effects. Many layer effects can create using this layer style. Often used for 3d, metal-like effects, and emboss-like effects. There are two main sections.

1. Structure

In this section, you can create master settings like Bevel and Emboss. In the Style drop-down menu,
– Outer Bevel
– Inner Bevel
– Emboss
– Pillow Emboss
– Stroke Emboss
Each section can get excellent effects. In addition to the Inner bevel style, a drop shadow create to match the Layer in the other four. Then the Technique should be modified to suit it. Photoshop effects can always change by changing the values. Depth, Size, and Soften can be adjusted to fit the design. Depth is a percentage, and size and soften, pixels.

2. Shading

This section mainly combines the color scheme to match the bevel & emboss style designed above. Shading allows you to change the angle of light, altitude, and gloss contour. Here are a few Gloss Contours that come with photoshop effects as default. We can also create a new contour if we want. Finally, the bevel & emboss style can change the style and opacity of Highlight and Shadow modes. In Bevel & Emboss, Contour and Texture can change the Range, Scale, and Depth values. We can also give you the desired Texture Pattern.

Stroke

Stroke is a very simple style that mostly uses for photoshop effects. It also has two parts: Structure and Fill type, and Structure section includes line size, position, blend mode, and Opacity settings. Stroke a line that corresponds to the number of pixels we provide around a selected layer. All effects in the Layer Style window include both Blend Mode and Opacity settings.
Under Fill type, you can assign a color, gradient, or pattern to the line.

Inner Shadow

This style uses to give a shadow or color change to the inside of a layer. Several settings can use to change the angle of the shadow, the direction, and the magnitude of the light. The noise in the Quality section provides the noise effect if desired. Contour can select its shape and spread. Blend mode and opacity are also seen here.

Inner Glow

This layer style uses to illuminate the layer, explaining it in one direction or several directions. Here are the three components: Structure, Elements, and Quality. The Structure section has the blend mode and opacity settings as usual, and the noise percentage can be changed. You can give the desired color and use the lighter shades for the inner glow. Technique under Elements can change the extent of the glow. Choke can change the size of the spread and the size of the glow. Here are some of the contours in the Quality section. Range and Jitter are available in two settings.

Satin

This enables us to apply a color of our choice on a selected layer. For example, if we want to take an image of an apple and change its color, we can change the color very well using satin. Distance and size should be chosen according to our selected layer.

Overlay

The Layer style make up of three main sections. The following three parts are under Overlay.

  1. Color Overlay
  2. Gradient Overlay
  3. Pattern Overlay

Outer Glow

The outer glow uses to achieve a visible, radiant effect. All the settings here are similar to the ones in the inner glow we discussed earlier. This can do using beautiful designs such as Neon light effects.

Drop Shadow

Drop shadow is one of the most important effects when it comes to photoshop effects. Layer style is one of the ways to add more beauty to the design. It simply gives a shadow to the layer we choose. The shadow can be set naturally using the settings here.

Drop Shadow Settings

There are two parts: Structure and Quality, and how the shadow should be blended, angle, distance, and size are set in the structure settings. Quality can change the Contour and Noise values as usual.

Basic Settings Of Photoshop effects – Layer style settings

There are several standard settings in each of the styles and effects of the Layer Style window. At the bottom of each of these styles, there are two Make Make and Reset to Default buttons. Make default if you want the settings to be applied to the next layer as well. Once the settings are changed, Reset to Default should be set to change the default settings.

Similarly, our effects can be seen as an example of ticking the preview box on the left side of the layer style window.
In cc versions, it is possible to use the same layer style multiple times. To do so, press the + sign next to the name of the right side effect.
